Scot Marciel was confirmed by the Senate of the United States of America to serve as Ambassador to the Republic of Indonesia.  Prior to his confirmation, Ambassador Marciel served as Deputy Assistant Secretary for the East Asia and Pacific Bureau, which is responsible for relations with Southeast Asia, and concurrently as Ambassador for ASEAN Affairs.
Ambassador Marciel, a career member of the Senior Foreign Service, joined the State Department in 1985. He has served as Director of the Department’s Office of Maritime Southeast Asia, Director of the Office of Mainland Southeast Asia, and Director of the Office of Southeastern Europe.
Ambassador Marciel also has served in Vietnam, the Philippines, Hong Kong, Brazil, and Turkey, as well as in the Economic Bureau’s Office of Monetary Affairs.
Ambassador Marciel grew up in Fremont, California. He is a graduate of the University of California at Davis and the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy.  He and his wife Mae have two daughters.


Translator/Interpreter
BASIC FUNCTION OF POSITION:
The incumbent carries out direct written translations (English to Bahasa Indonesia and Bahasa Indonesia to English) of all written correspondence, letters, Diplomatic Notes, articles and any other pertinent documents as needed. S/He performs oral, simultaneous and consecutive interpretation for the Ambassador, DCM, and other personnel as assigned by the Front Office.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
NOTE: All applicants must address each selection criterion detailed below with specific and comprehensive information supporting each item.

  1. Bachelor’s degree in Management, Administration or English is required.
  2. Minimum two years experience in translation and interpretation (English to Bahasa Indonesia and vice versa) is required.
  3. Level V (Professional Translator/Interpreter) in speaking/reading/writing English and Bahasa Indonesia are required. Must have professional certification documents in translation/interpreter or the equivalent.
  4. Must have knowledge of Government of Indonesia terminology, protocol, administrative process, and organizational structure.
  5. Must have reading comprehension, good speaking diction and listening keenness, social perceptiveness, speech recognition and clarity, oral expression and comprehension, written comprehension and expression, auditory ability to focus on a single source of sound in the presence of other distracting sounds, and have hearing sensitivity to detect varying pitches, tones, and loudness. Must be able to maintain the confidentiality of the translated/interpreted materials.
  6. Must have good judgment, decision making and time management skills.


Chauffeur
BASIC FUNCTION OF POSITION:
The incumbent performs driving duties for the State Motor Pool, operating passengers, cargo, and fully or light armored vehicles used for official business.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
NOTE: All applicants must address each selection criterion detailed below with specific and comprehensive information supporting each item.

  1. Completion of High School is required.
  2. Minimum three years of work experience as a driver is required.
  3. Level II (Limited Knowledge) speaking/reading/writing in English, and Level III (Good Working Knowledge) speaking/reading/writing in Bahasa Indonesia are required.
  4. Must be familiar with Jakarta traffic laws and safe vehicle operating practices. Must have good knowledge of Jakarta Metropolitan area roads, locations of government offices and foreign embassies.
  5. Must be able to drive all types of vehicles, perform preventive maintenance checks to include adding water and oil as necessary, and checking tires for condition and proper inflation level.
  6. Must possess a valid Indonesian driver’s license (SIM-B1). A copy must be attached to applications.
