Scot Marciel was confirmed by the Senate of the United States of America to serve as Ambassador to the Republic of Indonesia.  Prior to his confirmation, Ambassador Marciel served as Deputy Assistant Secretary for the East Asia and Pacific Bureau, which is responsible for relations with Southeast Asia, and concurrently as Ambassador for ASEAN Affairs.
Ambassador Marciel, a career member of the Senior Foreign Service, joined the State Department in 1985. He has served as Director of the Department’s Office of Maritime Southeast Asia, Director of the Office of Mainland Southeast Asia, and Director of the Office of Southeastern Europe.
Ambassador Marciel also has served in Vietnam, the Philippines, Hong Kong, Brazil, and Turkey, as well as in the Economic Bureau’s Office of Monetary Affairs.
Ambassador Marciel grew up in Fremont, California. He is a graduate of the University of California at Davis and the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy.  He and his wife Mae have two daughters.

Information Assistant (surabaya)
BASIC FUNCTION OF POSITION:
The incumbent works directly with media outlets to get coverage of consulate activities and programs, organizes press conferences, and place press releases. S/He assists Consul General (CG) and other officers in preparing and translating remarks, monitors local media and prepares daily press briefing for CG and section chiefs. Works closely with Information section in Jakarta to coordinate press releases and provides local stories for inclusion in Jakarta-produced press summaries and travels with PAO and CG to provide support at media events outside Surabaya. The information Assistant is in charge of social and new media programs as well.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
  • NOTE: All applicants must address each selection criterion detailed below with specific and comprehensive information supporting each item.
  • Bachelor’s degree in liberal arts, political science, economics, journalism, international relations or related field is required.
  • Minimum four years of progressively responsible experience in the media field as a journalist, editor, or public relations/advertising specialist or a combination of similar experience is required.
  • Level IV (fluent) in speaking/reading/writing English and Bahasa Indonesia are required. Must be able to translate quickly and interpret accurately.
  • Must have a thorough knowledge of Indonesia’s media, political, economic, social, religious, and education environment. General familiarity with key mass media, government, military, cultural, business, and labor leaders required. Knowledge of journalistic and public relations techniques sufficient to help meet Consulate’s public diplomacy goals. General knowledge of U.S. political and social processes and of foreign policy issues relating to U.S. – Indonesia bilateral relations.
  • Must be outgoing and at ease with members of the press, government, and general public. Must have high degree of initiative and the desire to establish and maintain contacts in coordination with other consulate sections. Must have sound intellectual judgment, flexibility and adaptability to changing schedules and unforeseen circumstances.
  • Must have computer skills (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and MS Outlook, Iternet).

Chauffeur (Jakarta)
BASIC FUNCTION OF POSITION:
  • The incumbent performs driving duties for State Motor Pool both passenger and cargo vehicles, and fully or light armored vehicles for official business. 

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
NOTE: All applicants must address each selection criterion detailed below with specific and comprehensive information supporting each item.
  • Completion of High School is required.
  • Minimum 3 (three) years of work experience as a driver is required.
  • Level II (Limited Knowledge) speaking/reading/writing in English, and Level III (Good Working Knowledge) speaking/reading/writing in Bahasa Indonesia are required.
  • Must be familiar with Jakarta traffic laws, and must have good knowledge of Jakarta Metropolitan area roads, locations of government offices and foreign embassies.
  • Must be able to drive all types of vehicles; perform preventive maintenance checks to include adding water and oil as necessary and check tires for condition and proper inflation level.
  • Must be in possession of a valid Indonesian driver’s license (SIM-B1) – please attach its copy in your application.
