Indonesia is an economic powerhouse. Growth rates remain relatively high and the rupiah is strengthening against the dollar. These are tell-tale signs of an economy that make up close to 50 percent of the region, with a strong probability that its economic trajectory will rise even more over the next five, 10 and 20 years. As a developing nation on an upward curve, Indonesia, therefore, presents striking opportunities and challenges.
I speak with even greater conviction now as Vice Chairman of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce, overseeing organization, membership, regional empowerment and corporate management. Economic growth combined with a dynamic political environment - Indonesia is the world's third largest democracy - has induced intense competition among businesses to provide the best.
The telecommunications sector, one of the country's principal drivers of growth, is no different. Bakrie Telecom has long believed that the vast array of technologies that send information over distances - may it be mobile phones, landlines radio and television networks - is a birthright of every Indonesian. Through ease of access to telecommunication, people can strife for a better life in a global world growing smaller by networks of technology and markets. At Bakrie Telecom, our dream is to create a better life for all Indonesians by plugging them into the information network. In line with our spirit for disruptive innovation, we have come up with a range of products and services that are not only fresh and innovative, but trend setters in the elecommunications industry.
Our sustenance comes from the support of our holding company PT Bakrie & Brothers Tbk. They provide a healthy capital structure. As a result, we have been able to maintain positive results as well as build our strongsubscriber growth. Our success has not been possible without a systematic implementation of good corporate governance. It is testament to Bakrie Telecom's strong commitment to our customers, shareholders and employees.
We have not forgotten our roots and community with our success. Corporate Social Responsibility through BTEL Rocks (Reaching Out Children & Communities) and the Bakrie Center Foundation, of which I am Founder and Chairman, goes to the heart of what we stand for: giving back to society.
We invite you to learn more about Bakrie Telecom through this website. We want you to be part of Indonesia's success story.
